The CHP stated in its collision report that the driver made an unsafe turn to the wrong side of the road, to the left of the solid yellow lines and the delineators. The act caused the man to collide head-on with a semi-truck and a trailer, and the Chevrolet went up in flames.
An eyewitness, Peter Kling, of Loma Linda, told investigators that he had barely registered the collision when Gonzalez’s car became a ball of flames. He added that the pickup truck went off the ground and continued down the road out of control until it crashed into another vehicle.
Several vehicles crashed as they swerved to avoid the Chevrolet’s flying debris. The male driver died in the wreck, and the medics pronounced him. The fatal crash led to the closure of both lanes of Gilman Springs Road while the CHP investigated and cleared debris from the road.
There is no additional information at this time. Those who witness auto collisions should make an accident report immediately to give first responders a chance to arrive at the scene.
