The impact of the collision ejected the deceased from the motorcycle. He slid across the interstate from the third to the first lane. A tractor-trailer driven by 36-year-old Tahirt Tasfahsayan swerved to avoid the young man, but ended up hitting him.
Herrera sustained significant injuries, but he lived long enough to make it to a local hospital where he passed away. The authorities did not state if Duran and Tasfahsayan sustained any wound from the collision.
The Pebble Hills Regional Command Officers are handling the investigation into the accident, with assistance from the Special Traffic Investigators. The accident is the 27th fatality of 2020 compared to 24 at this time last year.
Accidents involving teens are mostly preventable if young people follow road safety measures. The Center for Disease Control states that male teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19 are more likely to crash than female teens.
The center lists inexperience as one of the leading causes of accidents involving teenagers. Others gathered from accident reports include speeding, lack of seat belt use, and alcohol use mostly at night and during weekends.
