Investigators said that the driver of the vehicle stopped at a stop sign at the Plumer Avenue side of the intersection. When the motorist crossed the roadway, the SUV struck Gabbard’s motorcycle. The impact of the collision left the man with extensive wounds.
The Tucson Fire Medics took the motorcyclist to an undisclosed hospital where he passed away. The unidentified driver of the Jeep was injured and cooperated with the investigators at the scene. The TPD believes that speed is a possible factor in the accident, but they ruled out drug or alcohol impairment.
The fatal collision led to the closure of 6th Street, and traffic officials diverted traffic from the crash site while the investigators gathered evidence. There is no additional information at this time.
An auto-motorcycle collision, as seen in accident reports, is more fatal for the motorcyclist than the driver of a vehicle. A bike, unlike a car, does not cover the rider, and the latter suffers extensive wounds once he lands on the roadway.
Traffic authorities advise bikers to always wear a US-DOT specified helmet with head and face covering. A motorcyclist should also have on protective apparels, and ensure he or she rides within the speed limit.
