Investigators said that there are two turn lanes on the roadway; one is known as the left turn and the other as the right. The deceased was making a left turn from Oakbrook onto the Indian Trail with his motorcycle at about 5 p.m. when he veered into an adjacent lane and collided with a Toyota Camry.
The latter was turning left from Oakbrook onto Indian from the right turn. Caldwell’s motorcycle then skidded across the road and hit a westbound US Postal Service truck. The vehicle was stationary on the opposite side of Oakbrook.
Medics with the first responders took the man to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The GPD Cpl. Collin Flynn said that the investigators collected evidence from the scene, and are analyzing to find out what led to the crash.
The accident report did not state if the drivers of the Toyota and the mail truck sustained any injuries. The police have also ruled out speed as a contributing factor, and anyone with helpful information should contact the station. Those who wish to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers.
