Motorcycle collisions are one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in California. With over 800,000 registered motorcycle riders in the state, law enforcement and traffic agencies admonish motorcyclists to ride with the proper gear and care and caution.
Wear a helmet compliant with the United States Department of Transportation guidelines, ensure it has a face and eye protection, and an efficient inlet and air outlet. Wear safety apparel like leather jackets or reflective materials, ankle-length boots, full-fingered gloves, and long pants.
Ride defensively, enhance visibility at night using headlights, avoid lane splitting and weaving in and out of traffic, maintain the speed limit, and avoid impairments of any kind. As a first time rider, attend a Basic Riders Course, keep riding skills honed through continuous education, and maintain the motorcycle regularly.
