The police have surveillance video showing a sedan that is driving on an almost empty street. The two figures tumble to the ground after being hit. The drive of the car stops, which is clearly shown in the video, then takes off again.
The pair was dragged for about 50 feet by the car before they came loose from it and were left lying on the ground.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and took both victims to the hospital. Alvarado-Lopez died at the hospital around 2:55 a.m. The man, whose name has not been released, suffered severe injuries that were not life-threatening.
The couple was not in a crosswalk when they were hit by the car. A detective told news outlets that had the driver stayed at the scene of the accident, they likely would not have been arrested.
A man working at the club the couple had just left came out of the club after the accident and called 911. The man blocked traffic and waited for authorities to arrive at the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department is looking for a dark-colored vehicle. They believe it will have front-end damage due to the accident.
Anyone with information that leads to an arrest or conviction in the case is possibly eligible for a $50,000 reward. This reward has been made available by the L.A. City Council for hit-and-run accidents.
