The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 92 (Alabama Road) at Old Mountain Park Road.
Preliminary reports indicated that the accident occurred between a 2001 Nissan Altima and a 2009 Suzuki SV650 motorcycle.
21-year-old Genesis L. Lugo of Woodstock was driving east in the Nissan on Highway 92. When she went to make a left turn, she collided with the motorcycle. 18-year-old Cameron Clason, also of Woodstock, was driving the Suzuki west on Highway 92.
Clason was ejected from the motorcycle during the collision. Emergency personnel transported him to North Fulton Hospital. It was confirmed shortly after arrival that he had died from the injuries that he sustained during the accident.
Reports did not indicate if Clason was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The motorcycle laws in Georgia require that every rider and passenger be fitted with a helmet. These helmets must be Department of Transportation compliant.
Despite knowing the risks and the consequences, some people still prefer to break the law. Riding without a helmet when on a motorcycle is considered a misdemeanor offense.
The fines associated with not wearing a helmet are up to $1000.
It is also possible that a person could be incarcerated for up to one year.
There has not been any mention of if Lugo will face charges for the accident. There is a possibility she could face some citations and have to pay fines.
The circumstances are still being investigated by the Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit.
