The initial investigation disclosed that a vehicle traveling on the northbound lanes of Kirk left the roadway for unknown reasons into the southbound lanes. The car sideswiped another vehicle heading south and went on to collide head-on with a semi-truck.
The impact left Simpson with fatal injuries, and responding officers with the SCPD and the St. Charles Fire Department found her unresponsive. They were unable to revive the victim and pronounced her dead at the scene.
The police failed to state if the deceased was the driver of the vehicle that left its lane or one of its passengers. There is no information on the identity of the injured trio or what degrees of injuries they sustained. The investigation is ongoing, and the investigators will provide an update later.
The accident report also showed that the authorities closed Kirk Road, precisely from Illinois to Tyler Road, while they collected evidence and cleared debris. They reopened it shortly after 1 p.m.
