The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to the scene of an accident on Friday, February 14. The accident happened on State Highway 300 close to the city of Gilmer around 3:00 p.m.
The investigator’s preliminary crash report indicated that 62-year-old Amelia Wright Scott of Gilmer was driving a 2016 Honda CRV with a three-year-old passenger in the vehicle. She failed to yield the right-of-way as she was pulling out of a privately owned driveway that opened out onto State Highway 300.

Failing to yield the right-of-way, Scott’s Honda was hit by a 2005 Ford Focus that was being driven by Mindi Marie Higar of Longview as she was traveling northwest on State Highway 300.
After the crash, ambulances transported all three victims of the accident to different hospitals. Higar was taken to Christus Good Shepard-Longview and was listed in serious condition. Scott was transported to Longview Regional Hospital and was listed in critical condition.
The authorities did not release if the victims were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
There have not been any updates as to the condition of the women taken to the hospital for their injuries. Updates will be made available as they are released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The three-year-old passenger who was in the vehicle with Scott was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Dallas. Due to the extent of the injuries that she sustained in the accident, she died after getting to the hospital.
It has not yet been determined if speed played a factor in the collision. It is not suspected that drugs or alcohol were involved.
The accident is still being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety. No charges have been filed at the present time.
