The vehicle then left the road toward the right and entered the median in the center. He continued heading east in the median and then collided with the embankment of a creek.
According to Master Sgt. Ron Salier, Illinois State Police District 7, East Moline, the reasons that Martin left the road are unknown.
Martin was the only occupant of his 2016 Honda Civic when the accident happened. No others are believed to have been injured in the accident.
Emergency crews responded to the crash, and Martin suffered minor injuries. The emergency crews then transported Martin to the Illini Campus of Genesis Hospital, which is in Silvis, Illinois.
Police are charging Martin with several counts. The charges include leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, driving while under the influence, disobeying a controlled device for designated lanes, crossing a designated median, and improper lane usage.
The crash is still under investigation to determine why Martin’s car entered the median in the first place.
