Bowers was a passenger in a Ford Mustang traveling at top speed. The vehicle struck a Toyota Tacoma at the intersection and veered into the opposite lane of traffic, where it struck a light pole. The impact ejected the deceased from the vehicle, and he landed on the roadway.
The young man sustained extensive wounds that claimed his life at the scene. The drivers of the Mustang and the Tacoma both sustained what Ebert called non-life-threatening injuries. The police believe the vehicle Bowers was in was traveling at 60 to 80 miles per hour in a 25-mph roadway.
The authorities ruled out drugs, alcohol, or both as factors in the fatal accident. The spokeswoman did not indicate if the investigation is ongoing or if the Mustang driver will get cited. There is no additional information at this time.
Several reports of car accidents show that speed is a common factor in motor vehicle accidents. Traffic authorities advise motorists to maintain the speed limit at all times for their safety and that of other road users.
