Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell told local media outlets that Elizabeth Kris, 20, of Peoria, was driving east on West Southport Road about one-quarter mile east of Eden Road when she lost control of her vehicle. The 2003 Pontiac Grand Am left the roadway and rolled several times, finally coming to rest in a nearby field.

Authorities did not say whether they have determined a cause for the wreck.

Authorities said they attempted “aggressive resuscitative efforts,” but were unable to save McCuan’s life. He was pronounced dead at the scene just after 3 p.m. Monday, according to Asbell.

Kris reportedly was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment. She was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving off a roadway.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, Asbell told local medial outlets. The investigation is ongoing, according to Asbell.
