A woman from Caro was killed in a two-vehicle crash that took place on Monday, March 2. The accident took place in the Eaton County. The woman has been identified as Daine Romane, 77, of Caro.
According to the details shared by the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, the accident took place on the I-96 at the intersection with the West Saginaw Highway. Romane and one other occupant were riding a vehicle in the eastbound lane of the West Saginaw Highway. As the vehicle tried to take a turn onto the I-96, a westbound vehicle on the Highway collided into Romane’s vehicle.

Romane sustained critical injuries in the crash and was taken to the Sparrow Hospital. She couldn’t recover and succumbed to her injuries, pronounced dead at the hospital. Details from the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office do not reveal whether or not the other persons involved in the accident sustained injuries, and if so what was the extent and severity of their injuries.
The accident took place early in the day at about 6:30 a.m. The Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the crash. At this time, it is not clear whose negligence caused the crash. According to preliminary investigations, the Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out speeding and alcohol as likely factors that caused the crash. However, a definite cause will be known once the investigations conclude. The Sheriff’s Office may also reveal the identities of the other occupant in the eastbound vehicle and the driver of the westbound vehicle subsequently.
