Elmwood Park police have released new information about the crash, which occurred at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday on Belmont Avenue. The medical examiner’s office said Poniatowski was in a collision with another vehicle in the 7800 block of the street.
Medical examiner’s office personnel conducted an autopsy, which attributed Poniatowski’s fatal injuries to a crash involving a motorcycle and an automobile. The death appears to be an accident, car accident reports stated.
Local media outlets reached out to authorities for more information about the wreck, but were unsuccessful. No information has been released about the other vehicle nor the factors investigators believe led to the crash.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched Saturday to raise money in Poniatowski’s memory. About $1,300 was raised during the first hour of the campaign. Organizers hope to raise $10,000.
Poniatowski was a “great a good friend,” organizers wrote in the GoFundMe campaign post.
“I would like to ask you for help,” campaign organizers wrote. “I know that (these) times are hard for everyone, but every dollar counts. We would like to help him on the way back home – Poland. Thank you for all your help and donations. “
