The act caused Robinson to crash into the Honda, killing the driver. Paramedics pronounced the unidentified victim dead at the scene before taking his body to the coroner. A field test by the police determined that the Atlas driver was driving under the influence of drugs.
The police took Robinson into custody and charged him on suspicion of DUI. The accident remains under investigation, and the public will receive updates as things unfold.
Under California law, the driver did not only commit a DUI offence, but he also broke a traffic law. The latter provides that drivers should obey all traffic signs, and wait till they have the right of way before crossing an intersection.
A driver should never run a red light; he or she should wait until the light turns green before moving. Failure to obey the law is a traffic offense that ends with the payment of a fine. However, when an accident occurs, and a person dies, it becomes a criminal offense.
In the case of the latter, the driver would require a car accident lawyer for advice and legal representation.
