A 78-year-old woman identified as Mary Lou Smolik died following a car crash on Thursday, May 28.According to accident reports, the collision occurred at Lockport Township, Illinois, with the woman dying at 6:47 PM, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet.
The Will County Coroner’s Office reported that the deceased was a passenger in a car involved in the collision. The incident occurred at Renwick Road and Executive Drive. Meanwhile, the Will County sheriff’s office is currently reconstructing the crash.

In their reports, the Crest Hill Police stated that the vehicles involved in the crash were a Honda CR-V and a Semi-truck. They were traveling east on Renwick Road when the CR-V, in an attempt to make a U-turn, struck the semi-truck.
The two occupants of the Honda sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. Medics transported them to the hospital, where Smolik later died.
Authorities will determine the final cause and manner of Smolik’s death at a date yet to be decided. The Coroner’s Office also awaits the police reports, medical records, and toxicology records.
Drivers must avoid making sudden movements on the roadway. Before changing direction or making a U-turn, they must alert other motorists by way of their vehicle indicator lights. Motorists must also drive slowly when close to another vehicle to avoid collisions.
