Simultaneously, a 2000 Lexus SUV driven by a 33-year-old Lake Forest woman was northbound on the same roadway. The CHP said that the female motorist rear-ended the Nissan for reasons that remain under investigation. The collision’s impact fatally injured Ortiz while the teenage driver suffered severe injuries.
The investigators said the victim and the teen were both wearing seatbelts. They conveyed the survivor and Lexus driver to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. The CHP determined that the female motorist was under the influence of alcohol and arrested her on DUI suspension. She would need a car injury lawyer.
The vehicles involved were severely damaged, with the Nissan ending up in the center median, and the Lexus going off the roadway. The Oxnard Police Department diverted traffic off the affected road for three hours, while the investigators collected evidence and cleared debris off the roadway.
The collision remains under investigation, and witnesses can contact the CHP Ventura Office on the listed line.
