– A driver was killed late Saturday night when he lost control of his vehicle on an interstate near Peoria, causing it to go airborne and crash into an overpass, according to authorities.
Twenty-five-year-old Marcelas D. Washington, of Peoria, was killed in the crash, which was reported at about 11 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 74, the Illinois State Police reported. Washington’s vehicle was the only one involved in the crash and no other injuries were listed on car accident reports.

Washington at about 11 p.m. was driving eastbound on the interstate at the junction of Interstate 474 and Illinois 6 when he lost control of his vehicle, according to troopers. Car accident reports state the vehicle veered off the roadway and went into a ditch, launching it into the air.
The vehicle was propelled into the underside of the Interstate474/Illinois 6 overpass, according to authorities. Troopers said Washington was ejected from the vehicle during the wreck.
Washington was the vehicle’s sole occupant at the time of the wreck, according to car accident reports.
Officials from the Peoria County Coroner’s Office pronounced Washington dead from his injuries about one hour after the wreck. Toxicology results still are pending, according to authorities.
The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police. Car accident reports available Sunday evening do not say whether investigators suspect the involvement of contributing factors like speed, intoxication or inattentive driving.
