The man died at the scene from wounds sustained in the accident, and his death marks the third Caltrain fatality this year. The authorities said that the collision led to the stoppage of all trains in the area. The northbound track was reopened at about 4:25 p.m. with a speed restriction of 10 miles per hour.
The trains were also single-tracked for at least one hour. There is no additional information on the accident, and the investigation into Newton’s death remains ongoing.
Train accidents are not uncommon in California and occur for different reasons. They include negligence, human error, recklessness of pedestrians, mechanical failure, and over speeding. Others are defective tracks, derailments, and unprotected railroad crossings.
Victims of train-pedestrian accidents or their representatives can bring a lawsuit against the railway company for compensation. They would have to prove that the victim was not negligent in any way, and would need the services of a top accident lawyer.
