The preliminary investigation uncovered that a white 2019 flatbed truck ran a red light while crossing the eastbound lanes of the service road heading south on Todd Lane. The act caused the vehicle to hit a white 2011 Ford F-150 on its driver side.
LandaVerde was driving the Ford, and he sustained severe wounds that led to his death at the scene. The paramedics pronounced him dead a little after 4 p.m. The APD did not provide any information on the truck driver’s identity or his or her state after the collision.
There is currently no charge against the driver, but the police believe that could change pending the outcome of their investigation. They will provide an update at a later time.
Accident reports show that running red lights is one of the common causes of motor vehicle crashes. Another is disobeying stop signs, and driving through intersections without looking correctly. Traffic officials advise drivers to desist from all three for their safety and that of other road users.
