Las Vegas Metro Police said Kartam was heading north on Fort Apache in a silver Honda Fit when he rear-ended a white Dodge minivan.
He was taken to University Medical Center for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Dodge was not badly hurt. The authorities did not release that person’s name.
The two motorists were the only people involved in the accident.
This April has proven to be on par with the previous year where fatal crashes are concerned.
There were 23 fatal crashes and 24 fatalities in Nevada last month compared to 24 fatal accidents and deaths in April 2019.
This is according to information from the Office of Traffic Safety.
These figures come despite a stay-at-home order being in place as a result of COVID-19.
March showed a more dramatic decline in road deaths with just 14 fatal crashes. In March 2019, there were 23 fatal accidents.
Spokesman with the Office of Traffic Safety Andrew Bennett said speed was a factor in up to 50 percent of the recent fatal crashes.
During normal times, he said speed usually contributes to a third of deadly accidents.
Bennett said the fact that the roads were nearly empty could have led to an increase in speeding.
