Matzinger became upset when the 79-year-old victim drove around a parked city bus that was unloading disabled citizens along Sandia Road. According to the victim, Matzinger pushed, kicked, and punched him several times.
The elderly victim was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical for evaluation and treatment of his injuries. Based on the police, he sustained a black eye. He also had significant bruising and swelling to both of his eyes, face, and head. There has not been an update as to his condition at this time.
Matzinger was arrested and taken to the High Desert Detention Center, where he was booked. His charges include PC243 (D), battery with serious bodily injury, PC368 (B)(1), elder abuse, PC245 (A)(4), assault with a deadly weapon.
Based on public records, Matzinger was held with a bail amount of $100,000. He was waiting for arraignment in Victorville to be held at a later date.
Matzinger’s PC243 charge is not his first one. Back in September of 2019, Matzinger was arrested for PC243 (E)(1), battery on a spouse, cohabitant, or former spouse.
In California, an elder abuse charge can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony. A jail or prison sentence of up to four years could result in a conviction of the charge.
