A two-vehicle crash Saturday night on an interstate near Winnetka killed one driver and seriously injured the other, State of Illinois authorities reported Sunday afternoon.
Forty-five-year-old Kristine M. Kilmer, of Lake Forest, died from injuries sustained in the crash, which was reported just before 10 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 94, according to the Illinois State Police. The other driver involved in the wreck was seriously injured as well, car accident reports state.

Kilmer at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday was southbound on Interstate 94 near Tower Road when she lost control of her vehicle, troopers said. The car rolled, leaving the interstate and crashing onto a nearby frontage road, according to car accident reports.
The vehicle rolled in front of a car operated by 32-year-old Laura K. Burdick, of Indianapolis, troopers said. Car accident reports state the two vehicles collided.
Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, Kilmer died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. Burdick, meanwhile, was seriously injured and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. An updated condition report wasn’t available Sunday afternoon.
The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police. It is unclear from car accident reports available Sunday whether factors like speed, intoxication or inattentive driving are thought to have contributed to the incident. Police do not know what led Kilmer to lose control of her vehicle.
