The police said that a 26-year-old man from Onarga operated the vehicle on the southbound lane of Interstate 57. He crossed the center median and struck the northbound Ford. The semi going in the same direction then hit the vehicle.
The collision impact ejected Brown Jr., who drove the Ford, and three passengers, including an infant, onto the roadway. One of the passengers, a 21-year-old woman from Pembroke, and the Honda driver died at the scene.
The remaining passengers, 21-year-old Deandra M. Johnson, of Beaverville, and the 3-week-old baby sustained injuries and received treatment at an area hospital. The police described that of the infant as life-threatening, but they expect the man to survive.
Brown Jr. and the semi driver, identified as Jose C. Aguilar, a 33-year-old resident of Eagle Pass, Texas, also received treatment at an area hospital. The state police closed the affected lanes of I-57 for about eight hours while they concluded their preliminary investigation. There is no additional information.
