A car accident report from the southwest area of Ottawa, Illinois, disclosed that a female motorist lost her life in a single-vehicle accident during the weekend. 23-year-old Katherine Farrahi died after crashing her car on Saturday afternoon.
Deputies with the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to the crash scene along a county road after a collision report. The preliminary investigation showed that the Lockport resident failed to control her vehicle as she negotiated a roadway curve.

Farrahi drove off the road, struck two power poles, and overturned several times. Medics rushed her to OSF in Ottawa, where she passed away while undergoing treatment. The deputies did not state if there was another person in the wrecked car.
Failing to negotiate a curve rightly is one of several factors that causes a person to lose control of their vehicle. Wet road, after a long dry spell, and snow also causes loss of control as they make the road slippery.
Other factors are animal sightings, stationary or flying debris, brake failure, faulty steering rods, and mechanical problems. It is vital a driver maintains a calm and level head when losing control and avoids panicking.
Don’t brake too hard while trying to regain control, as it might cause the vehicle to accelerate, hydroplane, or skid. Apply the brakes gently, pausing for one or two seconds, before continuing. Steer in the opposite direction, avoid stepping on the gas pedal, and use the emergency brakes if the primary one fails.
