Motor vehicle collisions are not uncommon on Illinois roadways, and rear-end collisions are among the leading causes of crash-related deaths. Common causes of this type of accident are driving outside the recommended speed limit and distracted driving from eating, texting, or calling.
Heavy traffic, road rage, tailgating, mechanical failure, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and driving when fatigued also cause rear-end collisions. Negligence in this type of accident can fall to the person behind or the one at the front.
Drivers can avoid liability by focusing on the road ahead of them and avoiding all forms of distractions. Additionally, obey the traffic rules and regulations, and drive only when fit to.
