The crash took place on the afternoon of Saturday, June 6, according to the KCSO records. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident on the 3100 block of Lotus Lane shortly after 4:30 p.m. The single-vehicle encounter left one person dead and three others injured.
Preliminary reports showed the motorist was driving his vehicle along Lotus Lane at a high rate of speed, with three passengers traveling alongside him. He suddenly lost control of the car, causing it to crash under unclear circumstances.
Moten, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the traffic wreck, suffered fatal injuries, and first responders pronounced him dead upon their arrival. The three other occupants of the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Detectives did not immediately establish whether impairment by drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. They, however, listed speed as a factor. No other detail about the crash is available at this time.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident. In addition to speed, other possible factors which may have enhanced the accident include distracted driving, mechanical faults, or intoxication.
Detectives would consider all these factors during the investigation, and communicate new findings in subsequent accident reports.
