One of the vehicles, a Lexus, driven by Cruz, was going at high speed on Fairfax, passing other cars on the roadway, carelessly. When the driver got to the intersection, he failed to stop at the limit line and drove through. The act caused a Mini Cooper to broadside the driver’s side of the vehicle.
The Lexus went off into the field, causing Cruz to sustain wounds that claimed his life at the scene. The CHP said that the Mini Cooper was traveling west on SR 223 and a Toyota Tundra heading east sideswiped it. The drivers of both vehicles were unhurt in the accident.
The CHP has not stated if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. The intersection was closed due to the accident and was later reopened after the preliminary investigation. There is no additional information at this time.
Traffic officials advise drivers to avoid going at high speed and pay attention to the roadway. When an accident occurs, a motorist should file an accident report timeously and provide all relevant information.
