Freeway driving is often challenging for drivers, especially new drivers with little or no experience on the roadway. This often leads to accidents, and pedestrians walking on freeways are to exercise the utmost care.
Before getting on a freeway, a pedestrian should map out a plan on what side of the road to maintain, and cross only at the safest spot. Find a zebra crossing, traffic light crossing, or a part of the way with a police officer or traffic warden.
If none of those mentioned above is available, the pedestrian should pick a spot where he or she can see the road and the flow of traffic. Don’t be in a hurry to cross, and if there’s a pavement, step away from the edge.
While crossing, pay rapt attention to the road; avoid distractions like texting and calling. Keep checking for oncoming traffic, and only stop after getting across the roadway safely.
