The other driver, whose identity was not revealed, sustained minor injuries. Both the deceased and the driver were taken to the hospital where the latter got treated before getting discharged.
Griffin didn’t make it despite the best effort of doctors. The accident that took her life remains under investigation, as the police try to figure out whose side the liability lies.
Investigators look at liability after determining a driver’s negligence. Prosecutors use both to determine the type of action to file against a negligent driver, and the court uses it to assess the severity of the punishment a person should get.
In California, each case is tried on its merit, and the nature of the injury suffered determines the charges a person will face. If the victim sustains severe injuries, then the offending driver will face a grievous bodily harm action.
If the victim dies from the injuries sustained, the offending driver will face a vehicular manslaughter charge. Both offenses carry time behind a state prison, and the offender may also be asked to make restitution.
