Perez-Ramirez was first sighted by other motorists near the Greenville Road exit. The calls continued to come in, and officers with the CHP were dispatched to the area after the vehicle was identified as a 2004 Buick LaSabre while driving toward North Livermore Avenue.
Before the officers could catch up with the Buick, it collided with a 2014 Nissan Altima that was rightfully on the eastbound lane. Perez-Ramirez died at the scene before the paramedics arrived, and the CHP noted that the young woman was not wearing a seat belt when she crashed.
The Nissan driver, identified as a 33-year-old woman from Newark, sustained severe injuries and was taken with a land ambulance to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley for treatment.
The accident led to the closure of the eastbound lane, while the CHP conducted its preliminary investigation. The roadway was closed for an hour and 15 minutes due to the accident; it was reopened at 7:51 a.m., with the remaining lanes opening by 8:36 a.m.
