Preliminary investigations revealed the crash kicked off when the driver of a 2006 Infiniti G35 heading west on SR-76 crossed the dividing lines to pass another westbound vehicle near Pala Del Norte. Before the driver could overcorrect into the westbound lanes, he lost control of his car and veered into the north shoulder and down an embankment located off the roadway.
The out-of-control vehicle flipped over at least once and ejected a 23-year-old male passenger traveling alongside Juan Hart, 53, of Garden Grove. Both occupants of the car sustained severe injuries in the traffic wreck.
First responders transported the motorist and his passenger to Palomar Medical Center, Escondido, for urgent medical aid. Sadly, the Wildomar passenger passed away from his injuries not long after treatment commenced. Hart, whom officers believe was under the influence at the time of the crash, remains hospitalized.
Officers put him under arrest and would book him in a county jail upon his release from the hospital.
DUI suspects should endeavor to hire a drunk driving attorney as a legal representative during the court proceedings.
