The intervention of a drunk driving attorney would be useful following the arrest of an alleged DUI motorist who caused major injuries to a motorcycle officer in Atlanta, Georgia. The bizarre occurrence took place on Saturday night, May 30.
According to the accident reports provided by the Atlanta Police Department, 42-year-old Avery Goggans, ran over a deputy at precisely 10:30 p.m. The accident victim, identified as Maximillian Brewer, was at the time enforcing a mandatory curfew in the city along with several other law enforcement agents. The curfew was in connection with a Friday night non-peaceful protest against the deaths of some citizens.

Police said Goggans was driving a yellow ATV on Ted Turner Drive, past the police-populated area at a high rate of speed. The driver then struck the officer while he was standing beside his marked Atlanta Police motorcycle. The reports suggest the all-terrain-vehicle collided directly with the motorcycle, and not the officer, but the impact was enough to cause the officer serious injuries to his legs.
Medical crews conveyed the struck lawman to Grady Hospital, where he remains in ICU following a round of surgery, police reported. Goggans also suffered injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Deputies took the suspect into custody, on charges of felony driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, reckless driving and serious injury by vehicle. He is also facing charges for other traffic-related offenses and would require representation by a drunk driving attorney during the legal proceedings.
