The wrong-way driving placed Cruz in front of an oncoming 2014 Toyota Rav-4 driven by a 23-year-old woman. The impact left him with extensive injuries and the medics pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver of the second car suffered moderate injuries, while her 16-year-old passenger from Murrieta City sustained minor wounds.
The two other victims received treatment at the Loma Linda University Medical Center. An investigation into the accident is ongoing, and there’s currently no additional information.
Head-on collisions are among the leading causes of crash-related deaths, and one of the most common types of motor vehicle accidents. They occur mostly at intersections when drivers fail to obey traffic lights or stop signs, and when they fail to yield the way to a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
Wrong-way driving and veering off one’s lane of travel are also common causes of head-on collisions. Drivers can avoid it by obeying traffic rules and maintaining their path always.
