47-year-old Jose Ramon Perez rear-ended a semi-truck on Wednesday night, July 29th, and ended up getting hospitalized. The California Highway Patrol said in the car accident report that the collision the man survived took place in the Tulare County area of California.
The incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Avenue 416 and Road 42, west of Dinuba. The investigators said the semi driver was attempting to pull out when Perez slammed into him. The impact caused the truck to overturn and spread across the four lanes of the roadway.

The CHP said another car struck the semi, making the incident a multiple vehicle collision. Perez sustained severe wounds, and medics took him to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno for treatment. The drivers of the semi-truck and second vehicle did not sustain any injury.
The collision led to the closure of the avenue in both directions for about two hours. There is no additional information.
Small cars colliding with semi-trucks are not uncommon, but when they occur, they mostly end with severe or fatal injuries for the smaller vehicle driver. Operators of both vehicles can avoid colliding by ensuring that they slowly pull into traffic as bigger vehicles have blind spots, especially when making a right-hand turn.
Watch for red-light runners, keep at least one hand on the steering wheel, and watch out for kids suddenly appearing on the roadway. Perform engine maintenance regularly, scan the road 12 seconds ahead, and look backward when backing out.
