Officials with the San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office said in an update that they apprehended the man who sexually assaulted a 92-year-old woman with dementia in Stockton, California. Deputies took James Lee Coose, 45, into custody on Wednesday, July 29th, after trying to flee.
The sheriff’s office booked the suspect into the San Joaquin County Jail on a charge of rape where a person is incapable because of a mental disorder or physical disability. Coose is also facing charges of burglary with intent to commit rape, elder abuse, and resisting arrest.

The earlier report showed that the suspect assaulted the victim in her home near E. Willow Street and E Street at about 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28th. The Stockton Police Department said that the woman suffered injuries, but medical personnel expects her to make a full recovery. They released a photo of Coose at the time and a description of his outlook.
The investigators described him as a white male between 40 and 50-year-old, 5’8″ feet tall, and weighing about 150 pounds. They added that he had a goatee and short shoulder-length hair. The police asked the public to contact them if they see anyone matching the description, and the tips they received led to the suspect’s arrest.
The sheriff’s officials thanked the public for their help in making the arrest. They asked anyone with additional information to contact the SJSO or the SPD on their listed lines.
