A Texas law-enforcement official who is accused of being intoxicated when he caused a wrong-way crash in late January that caused a woman to be fatally injured has been re-arrested on a manslaughter charge.
Forty-year-old Jonathan P. Jones on Wednesday was arrested on one count of intoxication manslaughter, Bexar County authorities reported. The charge is in addition to an earlier account of intoxication assault for the Jan. 31 crash in which 23-year-old Taylor E. McCowan suffered fatal wounds.

Jones, a deputy U.S. Marshal, has been on leave from the federal service since his first arrest, according to authorities. He is being represented in court by a drunk driving attorney.
Jones at about 1 a.m. Jan. 31 was driving the wrong way on San Antonio’s Loop 1604 near the Babcock Road exit, according to San Antonio police. At some point Jones collided head-on with a vehicle driven by McCowan, investigators reported.
The crash caused McCowan to suffer permanent brain damage, family members told local media outlets. She died Feb. 15 after weeks spent hospitalized in critical condition.
Police arrested Jones on the intoxication assault charge the night of the wreck, but he was released soon after when he posted $50,000 bond, according to authorities. He was indicted on the new charge last week by a Bexar County grand jury, and he was again arrested and held on a $60,000 bond.
A drunk driving attorney will be needed to help Jones navigate the criminal justice system, as the felony manslaughter charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison upon conviction.
