Car accidents are not uncommon in California and the United States. Motor vehicle crashes occur daily, leaving behind minor or severe injuries, and in extreme cases, death. Factors contributing to these occurrences range from the negligent behavior of road users to unforeseen or external influences beyond their control.
They include drunk driving, recklessness, speeding, animal sighting, tailgating, wrong-way driving, and adverse road or weather conditions like rain, snow, thunderstorm, or fog. Others are manufacturer’s defects, underlying medical conditions, or distracted driving; it takes a distracted driver about three seconds to crash.
Drivers can mitigate the above factors by choosing to put safety first, driving cautiously, and obeying the road rules. They should also ensure they properly maintain their vehicles, and seek alternative transportation means if intoxicated, feeling fatigued or unwell.
