The man entered the middle lane and collided with a pickup truck. The collision’s impact ejected Andrade and Arvizu-Hernandez from the bike, leaving them with severe injuries. Responding medics transported the two to the hospital, where they succumbed to their wounds.
The 25-year-old male driver of the pickup and his 34-year-old male passenger did not sustain any injury. The APD said they evaluated the motorists and found no signs of impairment. They closed Indian School Road from 29th Avenue to 33rd Avenue while they gathered evidence and cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Motorcycle accidents are one of the leading causes of crash-related fatalities, and the motorcycle rider is usually the fatal victim. The latter is due to the open design of a bike, and the lack of protection the body has when it hits the roadway. Riders can protect themselves by wearing a US Department of Transportation compliant helmet with face and eye protection and protective apparel.
