Georgia State Representative Tom Graves later took to media outlets and confirmed that it was his son, John Graves, who was injured in the accident.
The representative did not release specifics of his son’s injuries but did state that he is currently in intensive care. Graves has shown signs of responsiveness but has a long road to recovery ahead of him.
The Georgia Tech Cycling Team was hosting a road race and criterium, which is a high-speed cornering race, in downtown Calhoun. The police have not released if another vehicle is responsible or if the accident was caused by bicycles.
Tom Graves is the state representative for Georgia’s 14th district. This includes northwest Georgia. This last December, Graves reached out stating that he would not seek re-election in 2020.
With his wife’s impending retirement and his children grown, he wants to take part in all the new and unique journeys that lay ahead for his family.
This could not come at a better time, especially with the accident involving his son.
As more details are released to the public regarding the condition of Graves’ son and the accident, updates will be published.
