The accident happened around 3:20 p.m. according to police.
The motorcyclist was identified as 43-year-old John Franklin White of Marietta. He was taken from the scene of the accident to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment from his injuries. Unfortunately, he died before making it to the hospital.
The driver of the Avalon was identified as 57-year-old Clintina Mitchell, who was not injured in the collision.
The Selective Traffic Enforcement Team for the department is investigating the crash. No charges have been filed at this time in conjunction with the accident, however, the outcome of the investigation could influence that.
Barrett Parkway is a split highway. It is possible that Mitchell did not see the motorcycle in the distance and turned prior to the road being clear.
The reports did not indicate if White was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Georgia law does require that anyone on a motorcycle must wear a helmet. The helmet must meet the United States Department of Transportation safety requirements.
Helmets cannot stop all head injuries from occurring, but they can help prevent some injuries.
More information will be made available as the investigation is completed.
