Auto-pedestrian accidents are one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in California. The Cal-OTS believe that the problem of pedestrians getting killed or severely injured on the state’s roadways is terrible and going worse. The agency notes that despite the general belief that drivers are always at fault, pedestrian mistakes account for most of the crashes.
The problem is compounded by the fact that more people are walking to schools, work, shopping centers, and embracing jogging as a form of exercise. To combat it, pedestrians must think two steps ahead of drivers, and both must work together to demonstrate safe behaviors on the road to protect themselves and others.
Pedestrians and drivers can achieve this by following the safety tips laid down by OTS. They include looking left-right-left before crossing the road and yielding the right of way to pedestrians amid others.
