A second big rig, identified as a white 2020 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer, was also southbound on the I-57. This second big rig was traveling directly in front of the semi-trailer that Bourcier was driving.
As both vehicles drew close to a construction zone near the Milepost 102, the big rig traveling in the front slowed down. Bourcier, who was directly behind, failed to see this and slow down in time. As a result, his Freightliner semi crashed into the rear of the other big rig.
Alexandre Bourcier sustained significant injuries in the collision. The incident was reported to the authorities at around 11:10 a.m. Once first responders and paramedics arrived, Bourcier was airlifted to a regional hospital. His injuries are reported as non-life-threatening. The big rig in the front had two occupants in it at the time of the collision. The driver was identified as Mark G. Penning, 58, of Gasconade, MO. Gregory A. Adkins, 47, of Willard, MO was the passenger in the vehicle. As per the accident reports from ISP, Bourcier was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after preliminary investigations.
