A man was injured in a rollover crash that came about after he fled from a traffic stop. The incident took place in the Peoria County on Friday, October 2. The injured driver was identified as Fernando Sandoval, 23, of Peoria according to the accident reports.
According to the details shared by the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on the morning of Friday. At about 8 a.m. a lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Sandoval. He was driving a Silver Honda minivan and traveling in the 8000 block of the Southport Road at the time.

Instead of stopping, Sandoval fled and began to drive away in a reckless manner. He continued driving along the road, traveling at exceptionally high speeds and overtaking other vehicles in an aggressive manner. The lieutenant who initially chased Sandoval gave up the pursuit after witnessing the erratic driving.
Fernando Sandoval continued to drive recklessly through a number of intersections along the Southport Road. After speeding through the Illinois Route 78 intersection, he failed to negotiate a bend in the road. He consequently lost control of the vehicle which left the roadway and came to rest in a field after rolling over several times.
The crash left Sandoval with serious injuries. Once help arrived on the scene of the crash, he was airlifted to the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. According to the authorities, Sandoval committed several traffic violations including eluding police and felony aggravated fleeing. Subsequent accident reports may show what charges are brought against him.
