Gallion was in the area with his friend. According to his mother, he was rollerblading at the time. Preliminary investigation by the Peoria Police shows that the suspect vehicle had probably left Knoxville to enter onto a side street. It was during this turn that the vehicle collided with the boy.
The driver of the vehicle didn’t stop to check on Gallion or to render him any aid after the collision. Instead, the driver left. Witness statements and other evidence gathered by the police reveals that the vehicle was a silver or gray sedan. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a black male aged between 20 and 30.
Gallion was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his crash-related injuries after Peoria Police responded to the incident. He suffered a swollen eye and a broken leg. He was due to undergo a surgery on his injured leg on Friday, September 2. The police continue to look for the suspect vehicle which likely has some damage to the front passenger side. Subsequent accident reports may show if the suspect has been apprehended.
