Most accidents require the services of a car injury lawyer, but that’s not the case in a Loganville, Georgia, fatal pedestrian crash. According to authorities, Jecolia Karikari-Prempe, 13, a special needs child, passed away after getting struck by a vehicle on Monday, April 6th.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department said that the tragedy started with a missing persons report in the evening. Karikari-Prempe’s mother reported him as missing after she didn’t see him in their home on Sweet Ashley Way in unincorporated Loganville.

At about 10:30 p.m., the police dispatched officers to 3334 Langley Road after receiving a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident report. Before that, Karikari-Prempe’s mother and some officers were actively searching for the boy.

Officers at the scene identified Karikari-Prempe as the missing boy. The teenager sustained significant injuries and succumbed to his wounds at the scene. The police believe that the young boy was trying to cross Athens Highway when a red minivan struck him.

The location of the accident was about 1.3 miles from Karikari-Prempe home. The police later uncovered that the teenager left his house while his mother was in the shower. The unnamed woman said that when she checked on him, she found his tablet in the garage.

The garage door was open, and Karikari-Prempe was nowhere in sight. The woman drove around looking for the teenager and was on it when the police called about the accident. The police did not release the name of the driver of the minivan and they will not charge her.

Vehicle-versus-pedestrian accidents usually require a car injury lawyer, and those involved in an accident are advised to secure the services of one.

No parent should have to witness their child die. I understand that the child had special needs, but why were there no precautions taken while the mother was in the shower to ensure that he was safe. It is heartbreaking because the poor boy probably thought he was just going to go for a walk but ended up lost. I hope that this gets investigated further. Will there be an update?
