A 2007 Toyota Camry that was being driven by 25-year-old Julian Flores-Lopez of Marietta was heading west, approaching the intersection of Canton Road and Elizabeth Street. Flores-Lopez struck the men who were crossing the street at that moment.
Flores-Lopez was the one who called 911 in regard to the accident and waited for help to arrive. He stayed at the scene and cooperated fully with the police.
Robinson and Milner were transported via ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital to receive treatment for the injuries sustained in the accident. Milner’s injuries were considered non-life-threatening and he was released shortly after being seen and treated.
Robinson sustained serious injury and is currently still at WellStar Kennestone Hospital receiving treatment but has been reported as being in stable condition.
There was no indication if Flores-Lopez had sustained any injuries in the accident with the pedestrians.
Being involved in a hit-and-run accident can be frightening for both parties involved. Some rules to remember is to pay attention to traffic lights and signals. Only being to walk if the light indicates that you can walk.
If the light is blinking “don’t walk” it is indicating there is not enough time to start crossing the street.
Drivers must be fully aware of their surroundings when operating a vehicle near crosswalks and sidewalks. If a pedestrian is walking in a crosswalk, they have the right-of-way.
The Marietta Police Department has indicated that this is an active and ongoing investigation regarding the accident and the circumstances leading up to it. They have also not indicated if any citations will be issued to any of the parties involved.
