Cuthbertson at about 3:20 p.m. was driving near Interstate 395 and New York Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle, according to car accident reports. Cuthbertson’s vehicle crashed into a traffic signal pole, police said.
Police said Cuthbertson was the vehicle’s only occupant. Car accident reports that had been released Thursday do not state whether he died at the scene of the wreck or whether he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Authorities have disclosed few details about the crash. It wasn’t immediately clear the direction in which Cuthbertson had been traveling just prior to the wreck, or whether investigators believe speed, intoxication or inattentive driving are thought to have contributed to the incident.
The investigation is ongoing by the Metropolitan Police Department.
Friends and family members shared memories of Cuthbertson on social media channels.
“Today my youngest brother (Cuthbertson) passed away,” one person wrote. “I’m really sad because everyone that knows me knows how I feel about my family.”
Another woman asked that others “keep (Cuthbertson’s) kids and family in (their) prayers.”
“My heart is heavy right now because it’s hard to take,” she wrote.
