Both vehicles collided while moving through the intersection, and ended up disabled. The accident reports did not ascertain which of the motorists had the right of way at the time. One of the motorists left his vehicle at the scene, and fled after the collision.
Day said Jameela Cunningham, a 27-year-old woman from Decatur, who was a passenger in the other car sustained fatal injuries. An ambulance rushed her to the emergency room of Decatur Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Officials said she succumbed to her wounds at precisely 10:05 p.m. on the same day. The coroner ruled Cunningham’s cause of death as blunt trauma suffered to her torso.
Three other victims traveling in either vehicle also sustained injuries. The reports failed to reveal information about their condition.
The fatal crash remains under investigation by the Decatur Police Department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team.
A car accident lawyer can conduct an independent investigation to determine which of the motorists was liable for the accident. That way, the victim or their family may have sufficient claims to pursue a lawsuit.
