Preliminary reports suggested the occurrence began when a patrol officer witnessed a traffic wreck in the area involving at least three vehicles. According to the reports, one of the cars, driven by 41-year-old Jason Zurney, of Woodland, failed to yield to other vehicles at the intersection. As a result, his vehicle crashed into at least two other vehicles also moving through the intersection at the time.
The suspect fled the scene soon after the encounter, prompting the lawman to follow in pursuit. The chase continued until the officer intercepted him in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Third Street.
Zurney appeared intoxicated when the officer restrained him. Tests conducted on the suspect revealed blood/alcohol levels of 0.30, exceeding the legal limits by about four times.
The officer arrested the suspect, on felony counts of hit-and-run causing injury, DUI resulting in injury. He also faces charges of failure to yield and driving without a license.
